and didn’t follow through for various reasons?

Resolutions, goals, and plans, or I like to call them intentions, can be tricky because we often think we have to do them perfectly in order to accomplish them.

Well-meaning intentions are often not achieved because we usually ~

  • Start too fast,
  • Go too strong, and
  • Try to change everything at once.

Or we wait till everything is perfect before we even try?

And we all know that perfect timing never happens.

  • We want to drink more water, so we fill up a jug and start drinking a gallon every day. But we end up feeling waterlogged, and have to run to the bathroom every 30min., so we stop.

  • Start to budget our money and plan to save X amount every month. But then the car breaks down, and we don’t stick to the plan?

  • And on and on and on; I think you get the picture!

It can be overwhelming to change everything all at once.

So we stop and never start again. Or, we start but never really stick with the intention?

Too many intentions, like trying to do ALL the intentions listed in the well-meaning list above. We may start one or all of them but never continue with any of them because it’s too much to do or too hard to remember to do them.

We’ve all been there more than once. And we feel like we have failed somehow???

But, don’t make yourself wrong for not doing something perfectly, or in the correct order, or getting it done in a specific time frame, or whatever it is for you?

Life happens!

We’re not supposed to be perfect,

and that’s OK!

When making our intentions, we first want to start with our mindset and be willing to understand that we may need to shift our direction a bit when everyday things come up, but it does not mean we should stop trying!

We need to start thinking differently about our intentions if we want to move forward with them!

So, instead of thinking of our intentions as hard work, not having enough time, too expensive, or an inconvenience, we can start thinking of our intentions as wanting to do fun things. I Love this!!!

Wanting is the keyword here! No one is making us think about, set, or do our intention except us, right! So we can make it fun if we want to! Plus, committing to do something fun is way more doable than committing to hard work!Use Aromatherapy When Setting Goals

How can you make it “FUN”? Once a week or once a month, reward yourself! For every small step toward your intention that you made! You can think of your intentions as: 

A list of fun things to do, with rewards

  • Save more money – To have an emergency/backup fund! Reward: Set $20 or more aside and buy yourself a new shirt, book, earrings, or something you have wanted for a while!

  • Drink more water – For hydration and to help with your digestion! Reward: Get a latte or your favorite drink!

  • Eat healthier – To feel better and sleep better! Reward: Treat yourself to your favorite dessert or ice cream! (Yum, I love ice cream)

  • Start walking – To have more energy, and it helps with depression! Reward: Buy a good pair of walking shoes or a cute new walking outfit!

Making small changes is the key

  • Save $10, $25, $50, or $100 a month. When you’ve learned to live without that money each month, increase the amount by $5, $10, $20, or more. It adds up!

  • Drink one 8oz glass of water every day for a week. Then drink two 8oz glasses a day for a week, and so on!

  • Walk to the end of the driveway every day for a week, then to the end of the block every day for a week, and then around the block every day for a week and build from there! You get the idea!

I read a post from Aromahead Institute, where I studied to be a Certified Aromatherapist.

This article was about new years resolutions/intentions.

However, this applies to any goals, plans, or intentions we want to set any time of the year by using Aromatherapy!

Using Aromatherapy for setting our intentions is more about ~

  • Choosing oils that inspire you

  • Offer mental focus

  • Give you more energy

  • Help support your confidence every day!

 

The idea is that you will make a small roller bottle of your favorite scents and carry it with you. Doing this will be a reminder and a motivator to act on your intentions!

It’s kind of like the string around the finger to remind us of something. Using essential oils will help to remind us to move forward with our new habits every day!

  • 2 drops Black Pepper* (Piper nigrum) – Reduces fear and motivates change. Protection from negative energy. The black pepper scent is fresh, dry, warm, spicy, and woody.

Find Your Focus Blend

This blend gets you focused, energized, and it helps encourage clear thinking so that you can act on your intentions.

Ingredients – *Organic

  • 10 ml Jojoba* (Simmondsia chinensis)

  • 3 drops Rosemary* (Salvia Rosmarinus/Rosmarinus officinalis ct. 1,8 cineole or ct. camphor) – Stimulates and strengthens the mind, energizes, uplifts, and encourages clarity. Rosemary typically has a strong, fresh, herbal scent.

  • 3 drops Spike Lavender (Lavandula latifolia) – Provides vital energy and support and stimulates vibrancy. Spike Lavender scent is Lavender-like and penetrating but also camphoraceous.

*Note – Be sure to use Spike Lavender. It stimulates the mind, whereas standard Lavender calms the mind.

Equipment

Directions

  •     Combine the jojoba and essential oils in the bottle.
  •     Snap the roller ball top into place.
  •     Roll the bottle in your palms to blend the ingredients.
  •     Apply anytime throughout the day!


Application

First, hold the bottle about an inch or two from your nose and smell your blend by taking two or three deep breaths. Then apply your blend to your wrists and/or behind your ears.

While applying and smelling your blend repeat your intention and why it’s important to you out loud while breathing in the aroma. (writing down your intention can be helpful too).

Then every time you smell your blend, it will help trigger your thoughts and remind you that your intention is important to you!

Safety

I recommend buying Organic essential oils whenever possible!

For these blends to be safe, it’s best to add no more than 6 drops per recipe as some essential oils may irritate your skin.

Plus, I always recommend applying a small amount first to make sure your skin likes it!

*Note – If any blend irritates your skin, try a different blend, and use the blend that irritates for smelling only.

Using these blends can be a fun way to keep you moving forward with your intentions.

Making small changes is the key to staying committed to your intentions!

What are Binaural Beats?

Binaural beats are when you hear two tones, one in each ear, at somewhat different frequencies, the difference between the frequencies of those two tones creates a noticeable third tone called a binaural beat.

The word binaural means “having two ears.”

The two tones can’t be more than 30 Hz for a binaural beat to work. The tones must also be listened to individually, using headphones or earbuds to be effective.

Five Distinct Groups of Frequency Patterns

  • Delta range (1 Hz to 4 Hz): relaxation and deep sleep
  • Theta range (4Hz to 8Hz): REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) relaxation, increased creativity, and improved long-term memory.
  • Alpha range (8 Hz to 13 Hz): relaxation, positive mood, and creativity. It generally occurs during mindfulness and meditation.
  • Beta range (13 Hz to 30 Hz): improved concentration, better focus, problem-solving ability, and enhanced memory.

How to Listen to Binaural Beats

It’s best to sit in a relaxed place free of disruptions. Listening to binaural beats in your headphones or earbuds for at least 30 minutes a day helps the rhythm fall into harmony within the brain.

You may want to experiment with the length of time you listen to the binaural beats. This way, you will find out what works best for you.

How to Clear Your Space and Aura Effectively With Sound and Sage

When I helped my daughter-in-law smudge her new place with a white sage & lavender blend before she moved in, and it was a great experience! Clear Your Space & Aura

Things to have before you begin!

White sage is the most popular sage for smudging. It’s associated with purity and has a strong presence, but you can also use other varieties.

Some common varieties are White, Black, or Red sage, Cedar, Rosemary, Lavender, & Juniper.

Although keep in mind that some people are sensitive to smoke, and burning herbs can be a little overpowering.

So, if you find that the smoke bothers you, there are other options! Like using sound, diffusing essential oils, or using a smudging spray.

  • Write down your mantra or prayer, examples:

“Release any unwelcome energy from this space.”

“Fill this space/aura with unconditional love.”

“I’m living in harmony with mind, body, and spirit.”

“I’m releasing all energies that do not serve me.”

“Fill me up with love, light, and peace.”

“I trust the Universe and my intuition to guide me.”

  • Lastly, it’s essential to clear your mind and set your intention. A quick Meditation before you begin will get you into a focused, relaxed mindset.

Steps for Smudging

  1. For best results, clear your home/space before clearing your aura.

  2. Set your intention & meditate to clear and focus your mind.

  3. Hold the sage at an angle, and light one end. Let it burn for about 20 seconds, then let the flame die out and smolder. (Watch for falling embers.)

  4. Starting on the lowest level and left corner, walk through every room, working in a clockwise fashion until you reach the top level.

  5. Use a feather or your hand to fan the smoke around the entire room while saying your mantra.

  6. Be sure to reach the corners of every room, all mirrors, doors, windows, and inside of closets and cabinets.

  7. Pay special attention to high-traffic areas and places where visitors come & go.

  8. As you are smudging, thank your Higher Power for helping and protecting you.

How to Clear Your Aura with Sage

When using sage to clear yourself, you will follow the same steps you used (above) for clearing a space, but the focus will be on your body instead of your Space.

  1. Stand in the shape of a T with legs slightly spread apart and your arms out to the sides.

  2. Keeping the sage stick away from your body, start at either foot, work your way up and over your head, and then back down and off the opposite foot.

  3. Passing the sage to the other hand, on the way down the opposite side of the body

  4. Repeat if necessary!

  5. Saying your mantra as you go. “Fill my aura with unconditional love” or “Release all negative energy from my aura.”

  6. Imagine your aura is being cleared of any negative stagnant energy.

Clear your Space & Aura with Sound

Clearing negative stagnant energy with sound is done by using a bell, meditation cymbals, tuning fork, Tibetan singing bowl, or you can clap your hands.

Simply follow the same steps (above) for burning sage, but the focus will now be on using sound instead of the smoke from sage.

Space Clearing ~

  • Set your intention and say your mantra.
  • Walk around the Space, ringing the bell or striking the bowl.
  • While cleansing the stagnant energy to bring positive vibrations and love into your Space.

Aura Clearing ~ 

  • Set your intention and say your mantra.
  • Stand in the shape of a T,
  • Clang the cymbals, or play meditation music to clear your aura.

Clearing stagnant energy with sound & sage will keep your spaces and aura free from negative stagnant energy and is a simple practice for a healthy, happy, balanced you!

However, it does take time to process everything. So let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. That way, you can work on releasing it. Forgiveness and Love

Sometimes it’s not just about forgiving the person or situation. It can be about forgiving yourself for the part you played in the hurtful situation.

Again, I get it! It’s so hard to see your part and take any responsibility. When it was that person who hurt you, right?

Unfortunately, I usually (not always) did have some responsibility, even though I couldn’t see it at the time.

Meaning sometimes, I didn’t stand up for myself, and I allowed the other person’s behavior to continue to hurt me.

And sometimes, I kept holding on to my hurt and anger so tight I let IT take over my mind.

So, I had a choice! Hold on to my hurt and anger, or learn to let go and move forward with forgiveness and love!

You have the same choice too!

 

Believe me, I know this sounds impossible when you are in so much pain. However, it’s not the actions you forgive. It’s more about finding forgiveness for the person, the past, and yourself.

It’s about letting go of what is no longer happening to you and moving forward in your life.

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

5 steps to Forgiveness and Love

If you give all of these practices a try. Then you will know what works best for you. You may not want to do all of the practices all of the time.

But you can pick two or more and make them a new habit for your forgiveness and love routine!

The 5-Steps are:

  1. Draw a line on a page

  2. Ho’oponopono

  3. Write a letter

  4. Meditate

  5. Journal

1. Draw a line down a page Forgiveness and Love

This idea came from Rhonda Britten, author of – Change Your Life in 30 Days & Fearless Living.

  • All you need is a piece of paper and a pen. Now draw a line down the middle of the page.

  • On the top left side of the page, write the person’s name that hurt you, and then write your name on the top right.

  • Under their name, write what it was they did that hurt you. Write all details you want or keep it short.

  • Then, on the left side of the page, under your name, write.

I’m willing to forgive you.

This practice is even more powerful if you say it aloud while writing. Let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. It will help you release all of those unpleasant feelings.

Here’s an example:

–Their name here–                       –Your name here–

You left me without a word        –   I’m willing to forgive you

What you said hurt me deeply   –   I’m willing to forgive you

Why did you???                          –   I’m willing to forgive you

And so on…                                               

 

2. Ho’oponopono Forgiveness and Love

The Hawaiian mystical philosophy of Ho’oponopono shows us the powerful use of apology, forgiveness, and love in a spiritual context.

“Ho’oponopono is said on behalf of herself and all creation, seeing and understanding all life’s interconnectedness.

Whenever she feels even a tiny twinge of fear or discomfort on any level, she can use these four statements to bring her back into sanity and peace.

Therefore, taking complete responsibility for everything happening in her life situation and the world situation.

She apologizes then asks for forgiveness, thanks, and love for herself, the other person, and the Whole.”

Based on ancient Hawaiian wisdom, it uses these four statements to cleanse and heal our collective mind continually. Forgiveness and Love

I’m sorry

Please forgive me

Thank you

I love you

Think about the person or situation that caused your hurt. Then, repeat these four phrases until you feel a release from your mind and body.

You can do this exercise at any time throughout the day as needed.

Plus, you can print a copy and put it by your desk, hang it on the frig., bathroom mirror, anywhere and everywhere you will see it, as a reminder to forgive and love!

3. Write a letter Forgiveness and Love

Writing your thoughts and feelings down is a great practice when you have so much gunk is in your head.

Start writing, and don’t worry about grammar. Write down everything you feel, write and write and write, let it all out.

This helps release those tormenting thoughts in your mind.  

“Whatever hurt you is not happening anymore.

You don’t need to send it. Forgiveness and Love

Once done writing everything down, you can burn it.

When you write it all down, you will have released the gunk from your mind and body.

Then, when you burn it, you’ve released it again into thin air. 

4. Meditate Forgiveness and Love

Meditation is a great practice to start. It helps by getting you back into your body and grounding you.

When you meditate, it will help release negative trapped energy inside you and help quiet your mind.

Benefits of Meditation Forgiveness and Love

  • It can help release hurt & anger
  • Can relieve daily stresses
  • Helps with physical pain
  • Calms emotional pain
  • It helps find forgiveness and love
  • Can lower blood pressure
  • Get a deeper, more restful sleep
  • Connect with spirit/higher power

Meditating is a learned skill that we can all develop. So make sure you give it a good try.

Try it for a good month or longer to hone this new practice and find what works best for you.

Meditating will clear your mind, so you can go deep into releasing new & old negative energy and those tormenting thoughts from your mind.

5. Journal Forgiveness and Love

Journal – this is a great way to let it all out. It’s an ongoing letter to release, forgive and love.

When you journal, you can recreate your story by changing what’s inside of you and how you think & feel about what happened.

It’s not about changing that person, what happened, or the past.

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love 

Rewriting your story will be liberating!

Here’s are two examples: Forgiveness and Love

  1. “They forgot my birthday, which hurts me and makes me feel like I’m not loved.”

Rewrite this statement to show forgiveness and love?

  1. “This person I love forgot my birthday. I wonder if something stressful is going on making them forget?”

In the first statement, you feel sad that they forgot.

The second statement you are thinking, when they start forgetting things, they are usually stressed or bothered by something.

So now you feel concerned and wonder what may be stressing or bothering them.

OR this one Forgiveness and Love

  1. When I share my good news – “She is always say’s and doing mean things to me, which hurts me and makes me mad.”

Rewrite this statement to show forgiveness and love?

  1. “She may be feeling insecure, angry, or lonely. And when I shared my good news, it triggered her, so she lashed out at me again.”

In the first statement, you feel hurt and angry that this person is always saying mean things and lashing out at you.

The second statement shows you know she is always doing this to you. Because she is sensitive and always speaks before she thinks.

So, by acknowledging this, you are better able to let it go because you realize that it’s not about you. It’s truly about that person.

Meditating is simple, right? 

You get into a comfortable position,

Close your eyes,

Quiet your mind,

and Meditate.

Well, that sounds easy enough!

But then, less than a minute goes by (or 30 seconds;), and your mind starts to fill up with chatter.

You start thinking of the frustrations of the day, all the things you have to do, or any other gazillion things that appear in your life.

You’ve heard meditating would help you feel more balanced mentally, help with your body pain, and overall well-being.

But it seems like more work to stop the chatter than it is relaxing, so you stop trying. Gurrr, so frustrating!

I know exactly how you feel. I meditated off and on for many years and could never stop the chatter. But I was determined to find a way. And I did!

This mind-prep works well because you can remove the thoughts from your mind, for the moment anyway.

Then you can relax into your body so you can get better results.

Different Meditation Styles

  • Guided Meditation

  • Transcendental Meditation

  • Labyrinth Walking Meditation

  • Focusing on a sound or object, like a flickering candle

  • Listening to meditation music

  • Following the breath

These are all great types of meditations, but most meditations won’t work well until you clear the chatter from your mind.

Now when I meditate, with the Mind-Prep Meditation, I go deeper into the stillness and have better results.

I have found that one of the best times to meditate is once you crawl into bed. This helps to release the busyness of the day.

You will fall asleep faster and have a more restful sleep. Which is essential for those of us in midlife dealing with autoimmune pain.

Most of us start meditating to have a more peaceful mind, better health, or a greater connection to spirit/higher power!

How to Meditate Well

Before you Start a Deep Meditation 

Here are a few suggestions before you start. But keep in mind that these are only suggestions to enhance your meditation practice.

You will still get results doing this or any meditation without the suggestions listed.

  • Go to the bathroom! 😉

  • Make sure you won’t be disturbed

  • Set a timer for 5 to 30min (best to start with 5min. and work up to 30min or more)

  • Diffuse some essential oils

  • Light a candle

  • Turn on some meditation music

  • Turn down the lights

  • Wear comfortable clothing

  • Find a comfortable place and position

Steps to Mind-Prep Meditation

  1. Sit, stand, or lay down

(Do what works best for you)

  1. Put your hands on your thighs with:

Palms facing up (this will allow energy to move freely in and out of the body)

Palms facing down (this will have a more grounding effect if you are feeling unsettled or scattered)

  1. Close your eyes and focus on your breath

(In through your nose, out through your mouth)

  1. Then imagine your body is a tall glass of water with a drain at the bottom of your feet.

  2. Start at the top of your head and imagine all of your thoughts are being mixed up in a blender until they are blurry and quiet. Then the water slowly drains out of the bottom of your feet.

(As the water is draining out, your body relaxes more and more. The water is taking with it all of your chatter, stresses, pain, worries, fears, anything you want or need to release out of your mind and body)

  1. Imagine the water is draining slowly down:

-starting at the top of your head & relax

-down through the neck & relax

-then down your torso and arms & relax

-over your hips and thighs & relax

-down your calves & relax

-and out of the bottom of your feet & relax

  1. The water is holding all of your chatter, pain, fear, etc, in a bubble, and this bubble is drifting far, far, away from your body until it evaporates into thin air and is no longer a part of you at this moment.

  2. Come back to your body and imagine there is a beam of light or roots like a tree going straight down from your root chakra (tail bone) and anchoring you deep down into the earth.

  3. Now, invite divine love in the form of soft white light (or you can make it pink, whatever feels good to you!;) to enter through the bottom of your feet and slowly fill your body, mind, and soul with unconditional love:

-slowly up thru the bottom of your feet and calves

-over your thighs and hips

-up your torso and arms

-through your neck and head

Until this light showers out of the top of your head and enfolds your body down to your feet with unconditional love, peace, healing, and feeling safe.

  1. This soft white light (divine love) surrounds your body and creates a shield of protection that nothing can pass thru or disrupt your safe place.

  2. At this point, you will want to “Be Still” and follow your breath in and out, or slowly repeat the words “harmony” or “calm”, or focus on a sound until you drift into a deeper meditation.

  3. Stay in this silence for 5 to 30min or however long you want (the longer you are in this peaceful stillness of mind and body, the better your results will be.

Note: If any thoughts start to creep in (and they will), imagine those thoughts moving to the outside of your shield of protection and evaporating. Do this as many times as needed! You’ve got this! 🙂

How to Meditate Well

“Quickie” Meditation 

You can adjust this meditation to fit your needs and time frame for the moment.

Often, there are times of stress or pain when you can do a “quickie” meditation.

You won’t need to do anything but close your eyes and slowly breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth.

As you breathe, focus on the area of pain or stress at that moment, and imagine it’s released and moves out of your body and mind.

In Conclusion

Remember, the essential part of your meditation is your intention to feel more relaxed and peaceful in your mind and body.

Be open to new meditation methods until you find what works for you. Be patient with yourself and the process; it takes time to learn a new skill. Practice makes progress!

Also, don’t get hung up on trying to do everything perfectly. Just let it flow how it wants to flow. How to Meditate Well
