What are Binaural Beats?

Binaural beats are when you hear two tones, one in each ear, at somewhat different frequencies, the difference between the frequencies of those two tones creates a noticeable third tone called a binaural beat.

The word binaural means “having two ears.”

The two tones can’t be more than 30 Hz for a binaural beat to work. The tones must also be listened to individually, using headphones or earbuds to be effective.

There are five distinct groups of frequency patterns.

  • Delta range (1 Hz to 4 Hz): relaxation and deep sleep
  • Theta range (4Hz to 8Hz): REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) relaxation, increased creativity, and improved long-term memory.
  • Alpha range (8 Hz to 13 Hz): relaxation, positive mood, and creativity. It generally occurs during mindfulness and meditation.
  • Beta range (13 Hz to 30 Hz): improved concentration, better focus, problem-solving ability, and enhanced memory.
  • Gamma range (30 Hz to 50 Hz): increased mental capacity, cognitive activity, and problem-solving.

How to Listen to Binaural Beats?

It’s best to sit in a relaxed place free of disruptions. Listening to binaural beats in your headphones or earbuds for at least 30 minutes a day helps the rhythm fall into harmony within the brain.

You may want to experiment with the length of time you listen to the binaural beats. This way, you will find out what works best for you.

For instance, you may want to listen to the beats for an hour or longer if you have high anxiety, pain, or stress levels. Plus, closing your eyes while listening can improve your results.

3 Essential Actions To Improve Your Midlife Beauty Sleep Tonight

When you hit midlife, you want your midlife beauty sleep more than ever, right! I know I do!

However, there’s more to beauty sleep than looking your best.

The stresses of day-to-day life, autoimmune conditions, and midlife hormone changes (ugh) can make getting a good night’s sleep impossible.

Sleep interruptions are likely to happen for various reasons, and women in midlife are especially prone when shifting from perimenopause to menopause.

During perimenopause, you can start having hot flashes and night sweats. Your body can be feeling several unpleasant symptoms while trying to relax and fall asleep.

And with autoimmune, you may have a hard time getting comfortable. You may also be experiencing mood changes like depression and irritability, which are linked with insomnia.

Let’s face it. Many women are sleep-deprived. Sometimes you may tell yourself that you will get more done with less sleep a night.

But, don’t overlook the benefits of deep beauty sleep, especially when dealing with hormone changes or autoimmune health issues.

Midlife Beauty Sleep

What Is Deep Beauty Sleep?

Deep sleep, also called slow-wave sleep, happens in the third non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep stage.

During deep sleep, electrical activity in the brain appears in long, slow waves called delta waves.

Typically, you will drop into a deep sleep within an hour of falling asleep. And then steadily experience shorter periods of deep sleep as the night wears on.

Automatic body functions like breathing and heart rate are very slow during this stage, and your muscles are relaxed.

If you are woken up from a deep sleep, you may feel mentally foggy for up to an hour.

Many factors of your life could suffer when you neglect to get your seven to nine hours of nightly slumber in, like:

  • Your focus – Without sleep, your mind gets foggy, and you can struggle to form mental connections.
  • Your mental health – Longer-term sleep issues can be linked to an increased risk of dementia, mental stress, anger, and sadness.
  • Lack of sleep may cause wrinkles and aging – Your skin may age faster if you don’t get enough sleep.
  • Your physical safety – Going through the day with very little sleep can weaken your ability to do some physical tasks safely, like driving.

Deep sleep is as essential for your health as diet and exercise. Deep sleep improves your brain’s performance and mood, and overall well-being. Also, you may be more creative and keep your youthful looks longer. YES! 😉

3 Essential Actions To Improve Your Midlife Beauty Sleep

  1. On average, get 7 to 9 hours – Some need more, and some need less. Listen to your body. It knows what it needs.
  1. Get quality sleep – Get rid of any sound and light distractions. Silence your cell phone. Keep your room dark and cool.
  1. Have a routine sleep schedule – Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. That means the weekends too! (Well, maybe sleep in 30 min or so. After all, it is the weekend!)

Possible side effects – Headaches, nausea, and dizziness.

Magnesium is a mineral involved in hundreds of processes in the human body. It’s essential for brain function and heart health. Magnesium also has a relaxing effect. It’s known to relax muscles and induce sleep. Plus, it helps to regulate melatonin production.

Possible side effects – When taken in high doses may cause diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas are made from any edible herb or plant. Here are two herbs that have been shown to improve sleep, promote relaxation, and help calm your nervous system.

Chamomile – Flowers of the chamomile plant have been used for many years to treat various issues, including poor sleep. It contains an active chemical compound called apigenin, which has a mild tranquilizing effect.

Chamomile can improve the quality of your sleep. In one study of older adults, the group who received chamomile tea reported better sleep quality than those who did not.

Valerian root – has been used as a sleep and stress aid for a long time. It helps treat sleep issues, such as stress, nervousness, headaches, and heart palpitations.

Plus, Valerian root is an effective sleep aid. Due to the two naturally occurring sedatives, valepotriates and sesquiterpenes.

Plain Valerian root can have an earthy taste that some may find unpleasant. However, adding a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup to your tea may help improve the taste.

*The Valerian root brand linked above tastes: earthy, minty, and satisfyingly herbal.

Essential oils can help relax your mind and body and may help you fall asleep better!

Extra ideas that will boost your

Deep Midlife Beauty Sleep

  • Avoid nicotine and caffeine. Both are stimulants that keep you awake. Caffeine can take up to 6–8 hours to wear off completely.
  • Don’t take long naps late in the afternoon and keep them short 10/15 min.
  • Avoid alcohol and large meals before bedtime. Both can prevent deep, restful sleep.
  • Limit electronics before bed and have your blue light filter on at night.
  • Meditate before you get in bed or while in bed. It will help you release the stresses from the day.

  • Improve Your Diet! What you eat and drink before bedtime impacts your sleep. One small study found that people eating a diet high in saturated fats obtained less slow-wave sleep. People who ate more fiber were more likely to sleep more deeply.
  • Listen to Binaural Beats! Binaural beats are created by listening to two slightly different tones, one in each ear. The difference between the frequencies of those tones creates a perceived third tone or binaural beat. Initial research suggests that binaural beats can help you sleep better.

How To Improve Your Midlife Sex Life & Vaginal Dryness With Home Remedy

Midlife Sex Life & Vaginal Dryness

Vaginal dryness is expected in midlife and can make sex painful.

However, you don’t have to settle for that!

When you use Coconut Oil, and you can enjoy your love life again!

Yes, one of the best lubricants is coconut oil. The same coconut oil that you use for cooking.

Any more, coconut oil is a standard home treatment for many health and beauty treatments.

You can use it to moisturize your hair & skin and use it as a natural lubricant.

Disclosure:  This post contains affiliate links.

When purchasing coconut oil make sure you get Pure Virgin Unrefined Coconut Oil.

Here are a few things to look for when purchasing your coconut oil.

  • Look for virgin or extra virgin coconut oil
  • Always get unrefined
  • Buy organic

Unlike typical lubricants, coconut oil is free of additives and other possible irritants.

So, it’s less likely to cause inflammation in an already sensitive area.

For the best results, spread a generous amount onto the vaginal opening and surrounding area before sex.

This will eliminate friction and discomfort. And have your partner apply some too.

Also, you can reapply a small amount of coconut oil after sex if you have any burning or soreness.

Benefits of Coconut Oil for Lubrication

  • Its antimicrobial – Coconut oil has antimicrobial, and antibacterial properties and may help fight infections.
  • Inexpensive – You can expect to pay 8 to 12 dollars for a quality jar of extra virgin organic coconut oil. And it will last for quite a while.
  • Oils are more effective lubricants – Oil-based lubricants last longer than water-based lubricants. So you wont have to keep reapplying.
  • Coconut oil is a vaginal moisturizer – Double-duty coconut oil can act as a lubricant and treats & relieves everyday discomfort of vaginal dryness.

Coconut oil is generally considered safe to apply to the external skin of your vagina.

However, since everyone is different, it’s recommended you do a skin patch test before applying coconut oil to your vaginal area.

For example:

  • Apply a small amount of coconut oil to the inside of your forearm.
  • If you don’t experience any redness or itching within 24 hours. It should be safe to apply everywhere else.

But, stop using coconut oil as your lubricant if you have:

  • Itching
  • Flushing
  • Swelling
  • Irritation
  • Discomfort

Things to Know

  • An essential part of vaginal health is your PH. When anything comes in contact with the vagina, PH levels can be affected.

However, short-term unbalanced PH is not something to worry about and usually quickly rebounds after the lubricant is gone from the area.

  • Keep in mind that since coconut oil is oil-based, it may damage or split latex condoms. So, only use water-based lubricants with condoms.
  • Do not use coconut oil topically or orally if you have a coconut allergy.
  • Also, oil-based lubricants such as coconut oil can be a bit messy and may stain clothing, underwear, and bedding. So be sure to use a towel on the sheets and clean yourself up afterward.

For Daily Dryness and Itching

The antimicrobial and antibacterial properties of coconut oil can help keep you moist and itch-free.

For the best results, use it at night before getting into bed.

Apply a small pea-size amount of coconut oil to the opening of the vagina and surrounding area.

11 Health Benefits of Walking Energetically for 10 min. a Day

Oh no, not again!

I thought as I stumbled, hit the pavement, and felt shock waves of pain rush through my body.

“My third fall in just 8 weeks! Gurr.”

The first two happened at home. But this time, I was in a public parking lot surrounded by strangers looking at me with pity. 🙁

After this fall, I knew I needed to improve my leg strength and balance.

So I started doing low-impact movements like walking, Tai Chi, & balance exercises.

These are great activities that will boost your leg strength and overall well-being without sweating like mad or overexerting yourself!

“This is excellent news for those of us who aren’t athletic and don’t like to sweat ~ Yes!”

Table of Contents

Health Benefits of Walking

Walking Energetically for at least 10-min a day is an easy-to-do physical activity.

However, If you can’t walk every day, try walking for 20-min three times a week or for 30-min twice a week.

“Note ~ For the best results, you should be slightly out of breath for it to benefit you the most.”

Bonus ~ As a bonus for joining the Blooming Community, Grab your Free Blooming In Midlife Self-Care Handbook, loaded with ideas to boost your midlife energy and overall well-being!

Health benefits

  • Helps Maintain Weight
  • Lowers High Cholesterol
  • Eases Joint Pain
  • Reduces Inflammation
  • Help with Depression
  • Reduces Emotional Stress

Set your own pace

Try walking every two or three days, when you first start. This will give your muscles and joints time to recover before walking again.

As you gain strength and endurance, you can pick up your pace and walk everyday!

However, a slower pace can help reduce pressure on your joints.

Going slower is also better for those of us with arthritis or other joint conditions that may inhibit our walking ability.

8 key points

  1. Stretch before & after your walk. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. Stretching reduces soreness and improves your flexibility.

  2. Make sure to swing your arms if you walk at a slower pace. This will increase the benefits.

  3. If you’re listening to music or a podcast, keep the volume down to hear sounds nearby like vehicles, people, or animals.

  4. Remember to stay hydrated! Drink plenty of filtered water before and after your walk.

  5. If you struggle with balance or pain, consider using walking poles or sticks to help steady you. This also reduces some weight on your joints.

  6. Talk to your doctor before starting any exercise program.

  7. When the weather is terrible, consider an indoor space to walk, like a mall or a big-box store.

  8. Invest in a supportive (and cute;) pair of walking shoes to avoid pain and injury, especially if you have foot, knee, hip, or back problems.

11 Health Benefits of Walking Energetically

1. Improved Physical & Cardio Fitness – Walking is an aerobic exercise that strengthens and conditions your heart and lungs.

Walking increases your capacity for activities like climbing stairs so that you won’t wear out or run out of breath.

Bicycling, dancing, and walking are excellent cardio activities that improve your heart rate and lungs. Cardio exercises burn a good amount of calories to help prevent weight gain.

“If it’s been a while since you’ve moved your body, try easing into a cardio habit with short periods of lower-impact activities.”

You don’t have to exercise 30 minutes at a time. Whew!

When starting, do 10-minute spurts. This will help you build up and get stronger.

2. Increased Body Leanness and Healthy Weight – The hormonal changes and decreased estrogen associated with aging and menopause can cause weight gain and muffin top… Ugg.

Metabolism, the rate at which the body burns calories, can slow down.

However, exercise like walking has been shown to slow weight gain, could prevent it entirely, and can help lose that extra weight.

Although nutrition is a large part of weight loss, burning calories through regular walking can help you create a calorie shortage, leading to weight loss. Yippee!

Health Benefits of Walking

3. Improves Your Balance and Coordination – A mixture of walking, strength training, and specific workouts like tai chi or yoga can improve your balance and help prevent falls, particularly in mature adults.

Walking improves your lower body strength and balance, which will help keep you more stable.

“Falls can be rough. Fortunately, I only had a few bumps and bruises when I fell.”

But, a fall can cause more severe injuries like broken bones or concussions.

~ Easy Balance Exercise ~

  • Stand on one leg for 1min at a time every day. Then work up to 3-5 min. This will help improve your strength and balance.

  • If you’re unsteady at first, hold yourself against a wall or chair with one hand. Do this until you build your strength and balance, then stand without any aid.

  • It may take a bit to build up your strength to balance on one leg for 3-5 min. but remember ‘Practice Makes Progress!’

4. Strengthens Your Bones and Muscles – Walking is a weight-bearing activity that supports your body weight.

Weight-bearing activities stimulate your bones and muscles to help keep them strong.

Your muscles fuel your metabolism, which means you can burn more calories throughout the day. Muscle mass decreases as you age, and menopause can speed up the loss. Bummer.

While strength training is the best way to maintain muscle, all types of exercise and walking may help slow the loss.

Walking helps work several different muscle groups, including:

  • The quadriceps

  • Hamstrings

  • Glutes

  • Calves

  • Ankles

Your upper body is working, too. Though not affected directly, it supports your torso and pelvis as you walk.

“If you move your arms or wear wrist weights while walking, you will also get an upper-body workout.”

5. Improves Your Mood and Fights Depression – Walking can improve the quality of your life when you deal with depression.

When you go for a walk for 30 minutes three times a week, this can be an effective antidepressant. Cool!

(Note* ~ Never stop taking any prescribed medications without checking with your doctor first.)

Extra benefits from walking that will enhance your mood, Bonus!

Sharper thinking – YES!

Feel better emotionally – Great!

Won’t feel so limited by your depression – Fantastic!

Health Benefits of Walking

6. Reduces Back Pain – Walking is an effective healing method for back pain.

A steady walking routine can lead to:

  • Stronger feet, legs, and hips

  • Core muscles will get stronger

  • Stability for the spine

  • A healthy spine can keep the body upright and balanced

  • Improves circulation throughout the body

  • Allows the body to hydrate better

7. Revs-up Your Immunity – Walking strengthens the immune system. Physical activity like walking increases the number of white blood cells circulating in the system.

These cells fight infections and other illnesses as part of your body’s immune system.

With as little as 15 to 30 minutes of walking a day, you can give your body a boost and stimulate your immune cells.

The more you move, the better prepared your body is to fight off pathogens. Health Benefits of Walking

“There are plenty of reasons to put
“Go for a Walk” on your to-do list.”

8. Relieves constipation – A lack of balanced gut bacteria is linked to constipation.

Aerobic exercises like brisk walking could help increase intestinal bacteria, an essential part of a healthy gut.

Walking helps to get things moving and improves your constipation symptoms when you engage in a minimum of 20 minutes of brisk walking 4 to 7 times a week.

9. Improves Sleep – Getting your steps in during the day can affect how well you sleep at night.

Walking is related to stress reduction and physical well-being, which could be a pathway to better sleep.

Plus, the social benefits of walking with another person could boost your mood and improve your sleep.

10. Helps Ease Hot Flashes – When going through menopause, you may not feel motivated to exercise with uncomfortable symptoms, like hot flashes and mood swings.

However, regular physical activity like walking can make menopause symptoms more bearable. Awesome!

Exercise is a great way to help you regain control over your midlife body changes.

11. Boosts Your Energy – Walking enhances the oxygen levels in your body. And triggers hormone levels of cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine.

These are the hormones that help elevate energy levels.

Going for an energetic walk when you feel tired or in an afternoon slump may be more effective at boosting your energy than grabbing a cup of coffee. Cool!

  • While running errands – Walk the parking lot or around the store for 10min.

  • Encourage your colleagues to go on walking meetings and lunches away from the office.

————————————————————

In my case, after just a few months of daily walking and balancing exercises, my leg muscles are stronger and my balance has improved. Win, Win!!!

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

Why did you betray me?

I should have said I was sorry. Why didn’t I?

You broke my heart into a million pieces. How could you be so cold?

I’ve been there, too!

When I trusted another person, and they let me down in a big way.

I didn’t say I was sorry when I could have.

I was hurt in such a devastating way that my heart shattered into a million pieces.

Man, it’s the worst feeling when you can’t stop crying. It feels like your whole body is in this constant state of quivering, and it just won’t stop.

I found it was so hard to move past it and into a new direction. So, you stayed in your hurt and let it control you.

Sometimes it feels like –

“If I continue to stay in the hurt, they will see that they were wrong for doing what they did to me. And will come crawling back to beg for my forgiveness.” (If only that were true.)

Then when you see this is not going to happen, that’s when you get angry. Gurr…  It is sooo easy to blame them for your hurt & anger.

“The only way to truly move on from

the hurt & anger is to forgive!”

You’re probably thinking ~ (I know I did!)

“Why should I forgive them??? They hurt me!”

I get it! Forgiveness is the last thing on your mind when someone has hurt you and is one of the hardest things to do.

But you only hurt yourself when you don’t learn to forgive and let go of the hurt & anger.

When you hold on to it, you generate all kinds of negative energy that keeps it locked and alive in your mind.

“Our minds are causing our suffering.”

Let that sink in…

However, it does take time to process everything. So let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. That way, you can work on releasing it.

Sometimes it’s not just about forgiving the person or situation. It can be about forgiving yourself for the part you played in the hurtful situation.

Again, I get it! It’s so hard to see your part and take any responsibility. When it was that person who hurt you, right?

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

Unfortunately, I usually (not always) did have some responsibility, even though I couldn’t see it at the time.

Meaning sometimes, I didn’t stand up for myself, and I allowed the other person’s behavior to continue to hurt me.

And sometimes, I kept holding on to my hurt and anger so tight I let IT take over my mind.

So, I had a choice! Hold on to my hurt and anger, or learn to let go and move forward with forgiveness and love!

You have the same choice too!

Believe me, I know this sounds impossible when you are in so much pain. However, it’s not the actions you forgive. It’s more about finding forgiveness for the person, the past, and yourself.

It’s about letting go of what is no longer happening to you and moving forward in your life.

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

Here are 5 steps to Forgiveness and Love

Give all of these practices a try. Then you will know what works best for you. You may not want to do all of the practices all of the time.

But you can pick two or more and make them a new habit for your forgiveness and love routine!

The 5-Steps are:

  1. Draw a line on a page
  2. Ho’oponopono
  3. Write a letter
  4. Meditate
  5. Journal

Disclosure:  This post contains affiliate links.

1. Draw a line down a page

This idea came from Rhonda Britten, author of Change Your Life in 30 Days & Fearless Living.

All you need is a piece of paper and a pen. Now draw a line down the middle of the page.

On the top left side of the page, write the person’s name that hurt you, and then write your name on the top right.

Under their name, write what it was they did that hurt you. Write all details you want or keep it short.

Then, on the left side of the page, under your name, write.

I’m willing to forgive you.

This practice is even more powerful if you say it aloud while writing. Let yourself feel whatever you need to feel. It will help you release all of those unpleasant feelings.

Here’s an example:

–Their name here–                       –Your name here–

You left me without a word        –   I’m willing to forgive you

What you said hurt me deeply   –   I’m willing to forgive you

Why did you???                          –   I’m willing to forgive you

And so on…

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

2. Ho’oponopono

The Hawaiian mystical philosophy of Ho’oponopono shows us the powerful use of apology, forgiveness, and love in a spiritual context.

Based on ancient Hawaiian wisdom, it uses four statements to cleanse and heal our collective mind continually. These statements are:

I’m sorry

Please forgive me

Thank you

I love you

“Ho’oponopono is said on behalf of herself and all creation, seeing and understanding all life’s interconnectedness.

Whenever she feels even a tiny twinge of fear or discomfort on any level, she can use these four statements to bring her back into sanity and peace.

Therefore, taking complete responsibility for everything happening in her life situation and the world situation.

She apologizes then asks for forgiveness, thanks, and love for herself, the other person, and the Whole.”

Think about the person or situation that caused your hurt. Then, repeat these four phrases until you feel a release from your mind and body.

You can do this exercise at any time throughout the day as needed.

Plus, you can print a copy and put it by your desk, hang it on the frig., bathroom mirror, anywhere and everywhere you will see it, as a reminder to forgive and love!

Or wear it –

3. Write a letter

Writing your thoughts and feelings down is a great practice when you have so much gunk is in your head.

Start writing, and don’t worry about grammar. Write down everything you feel, write and write and write, let it all out.

This helps release those tormenting thoughts in your mind.

“Whatever hurt you is not happening anymore.

You don’t need to send it.

Once done writing everything down, you can burn it.

When you write it all down, you will have released the gunk from your mind and body.

Then, when you burn it, you’ve released it again into thin air.

Here are some thought-provoking cards to help you release

4. Meditate

Meditation is a great practice to start. It helps by getting you back into your body and grounding you.

When you meditate, it will help release negative trapped energy inside you and help quiet your mind.

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

Benefits of Meditation

  • It can help release hurt & anger
  • Can relieve daily stresses
  • Helps with physical pain
  • Calms emotional pain
  • It helps find forgiveness and love
  • Can lower blood pressure
  • Get a deeper, more restful sleep
  • Connect with spirit/higher power

Meditating is a learned skill that we can all develop. So make sure you give it a good try.

Try it for a good month or longer to hone this new practice and find what works best for you.

Meditating will clear your mind, so you can go deep into releasing new & old negative energy and those tormenting thoughts from your mind.

5. Journal

Journal – this is a great way to let it all out. It’s an ongoing letter to release, forgive and love.

When you journal, you can recreate your story by changing what’s inside of you and how you think & feel about what happened.

It’s not about changing that person, what happened, or the past.

Rewriting your story will be liberating!

Here’s are two examples:

  1. “They forgot my birthday, which hurts me and makes me feel like I’m not loved.”

Rewrite this statement to show forgiveness and love?

  1. “This person I love forgot my birthday. I wonder if something stressful is going on making them forget?”

In the first statement, you feel sad that they forgot.

The second statement you are thinking, when they start forgetting things, they are usually stressed or bothered by something.

So now you feel concerned and wonder what may be stressing or bothering them.

OR this one

  1. “She is always saying and doing mean things to me, which hurts me and makes me mad.”

Rewrite this statement to show forgiveness and love?

  1. “She may be feeling insecure, angry, or lonely. And when I shared my good news, it triggered her, so she lashed out at me again.”

In the first statement, you feel hurt and angry that this person is always saying mean things and lashing out at you.

The second statement shows you know she is always doing this to you. Because she is sensitive and always speaks before she thinks.

So, by acknowledging this, you are better able to let it go because you realize that it’s not about you. It’s truly about that person.

You get the idea!

Life continually gives us unpleasant experiences that we need to work through and overcome, big and small.

We all do the best we can, but sometimes we get the brunt of someone else’s insecurities, faults, meanness, whatever it is.

Remember, forgiveness isn’t always about someone else. Sometimes you need to forgive yourself too.

For not following through, not loving yourself, not taking care of yourself, or beating yourself up with your words.

“It’s not what happens to you in life.

It’s how you deal with it!”

5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love

Doing the 5-Steps to Forgiveness and Love is Not a one-time fix-it-all event, and it doesn’t mean you won’t have sad, angry, stressful moments either.

So, anytime you feel stressed, sad, hurt, angry, or upset, use these practices to bring yourself back to the present moment.

It’s all you have, so enjoy it!

Use Aromatherapy When Setting Intentions

Use Aromatherapy When Setting Intentions

How many times have we made our new years resolutions or set a goal to do something or change a bad habit and didn’t follow through for various reasons? I know I have way more than once.
We start a list of things we need/want to change or improve upon, but then we get stressed out just thinking about doing it. We can feel defeated before we even get started. Ugh!
Resolutions, goals, plans, or I like to call them intentions, can be tricky because we often think we have to do it perfectly in order to accomplish it?
Well-meaning intentions are often not achieved because we usually start too fast, too strong, and change everything at once? Or wait till everything is perfect before we even try? (and we all know that perfect timing never happens).

For example:

  • Starting to exercise, we go all in and get burned out, or we end up causing an injury, so we have to stop and never start again?

  • We want to eat healthier, so we start eating salads and green drinks every day, and we end up getting burned out from too many greens?

  • We want to drink more water, so we fill up a jug and start drinking a gallon every day??? But we end up feeling waterlogged, so we stop.

  • Start to budget our money and plan to save X amount every month. But then the car breaks down, and we don’t stick to the plan?

  • And on and on and on, I think you get the picture!

It can be overwhelming to change everything all at once. So you stop and never start again. Or, you stop and start but never really stick with your intention?

Too many intentions, like trying to do ALL the intentions listed in the well-meaning list above. We may start one or all of them but never continue with any of them because it’s too much to do or too hard to remember to do them?

We’ve all been there more than once. And we feel like we have failed somehow???

But, don’t make yourself wrong for not doing something perfectly, or in the correct order, or getting it done in a specific time frame, or whatever it is for you?

Life happens!

We’re not supposed to be perfect,

and that’s OK!

When making our intentions, we first want to start with our mindset and be willing to understand that we may need to shift our direction a bit when everyday things come up, but it does not mean we should stop trying!

We need to start thinking differently about our intentions if we want to move forward with them!

So, instead of thinking of our intentions as hard work, not having enough time, too expensive, or an inconvenience, we can start thinking of our intentions as wanting to do fun things. I Love this!!!

Wanting is the keyword here! No one is making us think about, set, or do our intention except us, right! So we can make it fun if we want to! Plus, committing to do something fun is way more doable than committing to hard work!

How can you make it “FUN”? Once a week or once a month, reward yourself! For every small step toward your intention that you made! You can think of your intentions as:

“A list of fun things to do, with rewards!”

  • Save more money – To have an emergency/backup fund! Reward: Set $20 or more aside and buy yourself a new shirt, book, earrings, or something you have wanted for a while!

  • Drink more water – For hydration and to help with your digestion! Reward: Get a latte or your favorite drink!

  • Eat healthier – To feel better and sleep better! Reward: Treat yourself to your favorite dessert or ice cream! (Yum, I love ice cream)

  • Start walking – To have more energy, and it helps with depression! Reward: Buy a good pair of walking shoes or a cute new walking outfit!

Making small changes is the key!

  • Save $10, $25, $50, or $100 a month. When you’ve learned to live without that money each month, increase the amount by $5, $10, $20, or more. It adds up!

  • Drink one 8oz glass of water every day for a week. Then drink two 8oz glasses a day for a week, and so on!

  • Walk to the end of the driveway every day for a week, then to the end of the block every day for a week, and then around the block every day for a week and build from there! You get the idea!

Small changes become BIG changes over time!

Use Aromatherapy When Setting Intentions

Using Aromatherapy When Setting Your Intentions!

I read a post from Aromahead Institute, where I studied to be a Certified Aromatherapist.

This article was about new years resolutions/intentions. However, this applies to any goals, plans, or intentions we want to set any time of the year by using Aromatherapy! (This is where I got the idea of “Making a list of fun things to do”!)

Using Aromatherapy for setting our intentions is more about choosing oils that inspire you, offer mental focus, give you more energy, and help support your confidence every day!

The idea is that you will make a small roller bottle of your favorite scents and carry it with you. Doing this will be a reminder and a motivator to act on your intentions!

It’s kind of like the string around the finger to remind us of something. Using essential oils will help to remind us to move forward with our new habits every day!

Before making blends with essential oils, you’ll want to read this informative post called:

“Safely Using Essential Oils in DIY Skin Care.”

Then every time you smell your blend, it will help trigger your thoughts and remind you that your intention is important to you!

Safety

I recommend buying Organic essential oils whenever possible!

For these blends to be safe, it’s best to add no more than 6 drops per recipe as it may irritate your skin.

Plus, I always recommend applying a small amount first to make sure your skin likes it!

*Note – If any blend irritates your skin, try a different blend, and use the blend that irritates for smelling only.

Using these blends can be a fun way to keep you moving forward with your intentions.

Plus, when you make small changes is the key to staying committed to your intentions!

Comment below to share your favorite blend! Also, if you have any questions about blending, I’m happy to help!

Loving your Hair with Silk!

Loving your Hair with Silk!

Are you tired of waking up with dry, frizzy hair? I was, too, until I started using a silk pillowcase.

My cousin Jill shared with me that she was using a silk pillowcase and loved it, so I gave it a try, and WoW, what a difference it has made for my hair and skin too! I can honestly say I will not be using my cotton pillowcases again!

What is silk?

Silk a natural protein fiber from silkworms that is soft and breathable.

The shimmering appearance of silk is due to the silk fiber’s triangular prism-like structure, which allows silk cloth to deflect incoming light at different angles, thus producing different colors. (1)

Several different insects produce silk, but, generally, only the silk of moth caterpillars has been used for textile manufacturing. (1)

Loving your Hair with Silk!

Benefits of silk for your hair!

When we move around in our sleep, our hair rubs against the pillowcase, causing friction that can lead to frizzy hair, tangles, and even breakage.

Silk pillowcases reduce friction and are not as absorbent of moisture as traditional cotton pillowcases; therefore, they can reduce frizziness and help you maintain moisture in your hair throughout the night. (2)

All hair types can benefit from silk pillowcases, but people with dry, fine, curly, or blonde hair may find a silk pillowcase especially helpful. (2)

Blonde hair tends to be more fragile, and curly hair tends to get frizzy with the friction of cotton. So, a silk pillowcase will help your hair ‘glide’ across the pillow instead. (2)

If you have oily hair or skin, a silk pillowcase may not be the best choice for you since a cotton pillowcase will absorb the oil better than a silk pillowcase.

Benefits of Silk for your skin!

Anyone who invests in a nightly skincare routine will benefit more from sleeping on a silk pillowcase than a cotton one.

Less absorption from your silk pillowcase also means your serums and other beauty products will absorb into the skin, not your cotton pillowcase.

For those who suffer from dry skin or live in dry climates, extra overnight hydration can mean your skin stays more hydrated through the night, and you’ll wake up with a less tight and dry face. (3)

Cost of a Silk Pillowcase?

Click on the Purple links to find a silk pillowcase that’s right for you!

Silk pillowcases are a bit more expensive than cotton and other kinds of fibers. They can range from 17.00 to 99.00!

It is soo worth the investment! (you’ll thank me later ; )

Silk pillowcases also come in the most beautiful colors and patterns! (Remember to buy only 100% silk for the best results.)

Here’s to loving your hair with Silk!

Clearing Stagnant Energy with Sound & Sage

Clearing Stagnant Energy with Sound & Sage.

Clearing your aura and spaces is an ancient practice. Even though it’s considered ancient, it’s still an effective & well-known practice today!

It’s a way to cleanse and release negative & stagnant energy energetically. Then you can invite in fresh, new, positive energy.

I helped my daughter-in-law smudge her new place with a white sage & lavender blend before she moved in, and it was a great experience!

The only mistake we made was not opening up enough windows? It was pretty warm that day, and for some reason, several wasps were flying around the windows?

We only opened two windows because only two windows had screens (new screens were getting put in), and we didn’t want any wasps flying in.

We are both scaredy-cats when it comes to flying, stinging bugs. 😮

So, we thought, Nah, we’ll be fine.

Nope, we definitely needed more windows open, “HA”! We both felt a little loopy the rest of the day after catching a buzz from the sage smoke.

Make sure you have good ventilation when smudging! 😉

Energy from people and objects can leave impressions of itself in spaces like your home, office, and car.

Also, negative stagnant energy can stay trapped in your aura. So, it’s essential to regularly clear all of these areas for new fresh & vibrant energy!

There are many reasons you may want to clear stagnant energy.

Some of them include:

  • Before you move into a new home or office.
  • During and after any bad relationship.
  • After the death of a loved one.
  • When a traumatic or damaging event happens.
  • While feeling depressed or sad.
  • During and after an illness.
  • When buying a new car ~ especially a used car.
  • Monthly energy maintenance is good too!

The most important thing about clearing energy is your intention. When clearing, you can visualize the old stagnant energy leaving the area while inviting fresh, new, positive energy in.

Disclosure:  This post contains affiliate links.

Things to have before you begin!

White sage is the most popular sage for smudging. It’s associated with purity and has a strong presence, but you can also use other varieties.

Some common varieties are White, Black, or Red sage, Cedar, Sweetgrass, Rosemary, Lavender, Juniper, and Palo Santo.

Although keep in mind that some people are sensitive to smoke, and burning herbs can be a little overpowering.

So, if you find that the smoke bothers you, there are other options! Like using sound, diffusing essential oils, or using a smudging spray.

Clearing stagnant energy with sound & sage

Find all of your smudging supplies under the Turquoise links!

  4. Abalone Shell (optional)
  5. Sage Candle
  6. Sage Incense Sticks
  7. Essential Oils & Portable Diffuser (if you do not want the smoke)
  8. Aura/Space Smudge Spray  (if you do not want the smoke)

Sound Clearing supplies ~

  1. Bell
  2. Meditation Cymbals
  3. Tuning fork
  4. Tibetan singing bowl
  5. Meditation/chanting Music

You could use a combination of sound and sage like~

  • Sage & a bell
  • Diffuse essential oils & singing bowl
  • Smudge spray & meditation/chanting music

~How to clear your Space with sage~

After you have gathered your smudging supplies, and before you begin~

  • Open the windows and doors to let the negative stagnant energy out and let in the fresh new energy.
  • Write down your mantra or prayer, examples:

“Release any unwelcome energy from this space.”

“Fill this space/aura with unconditional love.”

“I’m living in harmony with mind, body, and spirit.”

“I’m releasing all energies that do not serve me.”

“Fill me up with love, light, and peace.”

“I trust the Universe and my intuition to guide me.”

  • Lastly, it’s essential to clear your mind and set your intention. A quick Meditation before you begin will get you into a focused, relaxed mindset.

For info. on meditating, take a look at this popular post~

“I Finally Figured out how to Meditate and get results!”

Clearing stagnant energy with sound & sage.

Steps for smudging~

  1. For best results, clear your aura before clearing your home/space.
  2. Set your intention & meditate to clear and focus your mind.
  3. Hold the sage at an angle, and light one end. Let it burn for about 20 seconds, then let the flame die out and smolder. (Watch for falling embers.)
  4. Starting on the lowest level and left corner, walk through every room, working in a clockwise fashion until you reach the top level.
  5. Use a feather or your hand to fan the smoke around the entire room while saying your mantra.
  6. Be sure to reach the corners of every room, all mirrors, doors, windows, and inside of closets and cabinets.
  7. Pay special attention to high-traffic areas and places where visitors come & go.
  8. As you are smudging, thank your Higher Power for helping and protecting you.

~How to clear your Aura with sage~

When using sage to clear yourself, you will follow the same steps you used (above) for clearing a space, but the focus will be on your body instead of your Space.

  1. Stand in the shape of a T with legs slightly spread apart and your arms out to the sides.
  2. Keeping the sage stick away from your body, start at either foot, work your way up and over your head, and then back down and off the opposite foot.
  3. Passing the sage to the other hand, on the way down the opposite side of the body
  4. Repeat if necessary!
  5. Saying your mantra as you go. “Fill my aura with unconditional love” or “Release all negative energy from my aura.”
  6. Envisioning the smoke is clearing your aura of any negative stagnant energy.

Clearing stagnant energy with sound & sage.

~How to clear your Space & Aura with Sound~

Clearing negative stagnant energy with sound is done by using a bell, meditation cymbals, tuning fork, Tibetan singing bowl, or you can clap your hands.

Simply follow the same steps (above) for burning sage, but the focus will now be on using sound instead of the smoke from sage.

Space Clearing ~

  • Set your intention and say your mantra.
  • Walk around the Space, ringing the bell or striking the bowl.
  • While cleansing the stagnant energy to bring positive vibrations and love into your Space.

Aura Clearing ~

  • Set your intention and say your mantra.
  • Stand in the shape of a T,
  • Clang the cymbals, or play meditation music to clear your aura.

Clearing stagnant energy with sound & sage will keep your spaces and aura free from negative stagnant energy and is essential for a healthy, happy, balanced you!

Here’s to Clearing Stagnant Energy!

Making your own DIY Ironing Board is easy and fun! I had been using a small 25×19 ironing mat to iron my projects on, but it was always moving around a little and never enough space.

So I decided to make a DIY Ironing Board. I first got the idea from The Crafty Gemini; she made a small traveling ironing board out of an old wooden puzzle board, pretty clever!

I needed a much larger board for my needs, and we just happened to have a 30 x 28 board leftover from a project my husband was working on at home. That was going to work!

(If you don’t have any pieces of wood around the house, you could get the size you want at Home Depot or Lowes.)

So I purchased the materials that I needed, and tada, I have a large DIY Ironing Board, and it works wonderfully… I love it!!!

How it all came together!

I started with the 30 x 28 board. It doesn’t have to be a pretty board! 😉 You can use any size board that fits your needs.

Then I needed to decide what materials to use for the cover and cushion. I wanted a durable ironing board cover that would last.

I had a pretty cotton print fabric for Ironing before, but after a while, it had brown scorch marks on the material, and that made me sad 🙁

So, I went with the traditional silver heat-resistant ironing fabric for its durability and clean look! 🙂

Materials for my DIY Ironing Board

How I constructed my DIY Ironing Board

  1. Lay the board on a flat surface and staple the ironing mat to the board and around the board’s edges.

The board was a bit bigger than I needed, but I didn’t have a way to cut it down, so it would have to do, and it worked out nicely!

2. Fold edges of the silver fabric under and press for a clean finish.

  1. Center the fabric over the board so it hangs evenly over all four sides, pin in place.

  1. Staple the first edge to the back of the board. Leaving the corners for last. I stood the board on its side to keep the fabric tight.

  1. Lay the board flat again and on the opposite side, pull the fabric tight and pin it in place.

  1. Stand the board on the side and staple the fabric to the back of the board while holding tight.

Sometimes the staple didn’t go in well, so make sure to have a hammer on hand to finish the job!

  1. Now the corners! Pull the fabric around and fold over the corners, pulling tight, then staple to hold in place for a tighter fit.

  1. Go to the third and fourth sides of the board and repeat steps 5 thru 7.

  1. After all sides and corners are tight and stapled, it’s time to add a pretty and functional backing!

Staple all edges!

  1. I picked a roll of spongy mesh shelf liner to cover the raw edges and keep the board in place, and it looks pretty too!

Nice, clean finish on the back!

There you have it, a large DIY ironing board for all of your ironing needs!

Here’s to Ironing!!! ; >
